Gays to Marry, Parades Everywhere

I hope to gawd that society here in Canada can finally move on now that the so-called same-sex legislation has finally been passed here in Canada. Of course as long as Mr. Harper leads his party down the religious-righteous path to ruin, the issue may take years to die out. How about we move on to doing something with health care, PLEASE.

Regardless of this outcome, the backwater below us will continue to make news of this issue. In Hillsborough, Florida, the elected officials there banned the county from recognizing gay pride. County Commissioner Kathy Castor was the only dissenting vote adding, "I think it's inappropriate for government to promote discrimination." Here, here Kathy! A voice in the wilderness however.

A Man of Convictions

Pat O'Brien unexpectingly quit the Liberal Party today over plans to legalize gay marriage at some point. Wow, what a hero to stand up for his bigoted convictions over this harmless issue. I think I'm gonna faint.

My friend over at haldenjohnson.net posted this piece about trust in our politicians. Is it any wonder it's at an all-time low, look whom we elect? So here's a question to toss around. I know there's lots of folks who believe they want a true democracy with true representation of the populace. I think we have to be very careful what we wish for in this instance. For example, Joe Priest tells the flock that gays are an abomination 'cause it says so right there in black in white in the bible and that's the entire basis of their opinion. The problem is there isn't a licence required to vote. I think you should have to pass a test .... how about some sample questions:

1. Do you honestly believe that the bible is word for word, the written truth of gawd?

2. Have you read more than 1 book your entire life?

3. Have you ever watched Pat Robertson on TV on a Sunday morning?

4. Do you watch Jerry Springer or Wolf Blitzer because they're the only honest people on tv?

I'm thinking if you answer yes to those questions then you're disqualified. You just don't get to vote on anything at all.
