Election Day in Canada

So the talk around the water cooler is what the final tally will actually be. By all accounts it will be a blowout if you listen to people around here. But you never know for sure, you still gotta watch. My personal opinion is it'll be closer than most people think ... but the Sens will still thump the Leafs tonight. What the hell did you think I was talking about?

One More Week

And the pain will be over. If polls are right the Conservatives will win the election. The Liberals have honestly done nothing to gain a vote from anyone that I can see. Mix that salad up with doughhead gaffs like the Olivia Chow blog entry and what do you get? Canadians obviously want and need change and it's my opinion they're holding their noses while voting this election. What concerns me most is Harper being hailed a hero when really pretty much anyone but Harper leading this party would've been a shoo-in from the get go.

I think I stated earlier or maybe I just talked about it over coffee that most people like me were better off with a Conservative government as far as taxes go. I guess that's a mistruth however. Harper is gonna pay for my GST cut by cancelling the Liberal tax cut. Great idea that didn't get much press. So now my taxes are actually gonna be more under a Conservative government, who knew.

Truth be told I've already voted and it pained me to do so much like the last election. I couldn't vote Conservative, I just couldn't based on the free vote on gay marriage alone. If you've read this thing for a bit youve seen my diatribes on this issue before. To me it's like offering a free vote on whether women should get the vote after the fact. It's really that simple an issue to me and I thankfully read that amongst the generation coming up it's not an issue at all, it's a done deal already.

This is really an issue for the bigots and people who like to literally believe in the bible and hide their bigotry behind it. It was my belief that religion could be benign and actually help some people. Things like this though move me the other way and religion is fast becoming a plague on the people of the world. Look at what's happening south of border when religion is a central tenent of government. And the crazed president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who thinks that god directed the leaders of the world to listen closely to his speech to the UN and that a ray of light protected him during his speech. Un-frick'in believable.
