Same-Sex Marriage and the Catholic Church

Well indeed if this isn't a controversy at least in our heads and hearts if not in the streets. According to the letters to the editor, and too many clerics, the PM is going to hell in a handbasket if the government legalizes gay marriage which is a certainty. Yes, many Catholics preach, Mr. Chretien should follow his faith and uphold catholic tradition and outlaw same-sex marriage. It's an afront to family values, however those may be defined.

Ahhhh, I wonder if these people really believe that this or any Prime Minister should hold true to his or her religion in deciding government policy. For instance, suppose we were to elect, egads, a muslim pm. Just think of what laws they'd bring in the name of their religion ... oh wait, I think we already have some of those countries ... wonderful places to live really, absolutely chalk full of equal rights for all. And that's what it really boils down to for this issue isn't it? Equal rights? For that reason, the rational and sane policy is to legalize same-sex marriage. I would consider it no more a threat to the family than Catholicism would you?
